The drive against vehicles without number plates taken up by Capital Police has now completed four days. Police Personnel could be seen at various points in the capital complex flagging down defaulting vehicles and taking action against them.
While most people had to pay a fine, some vehicle riders/owners who could not properly prove the ownership of vehicle had to face a tough time.
The vehicles have been seized for further verification. Police Station compounds are now full of such vehicles. In Naharlagun POlice Station, there did not seem to be place to seize many more vehicles.
SP Capital Harsha Vardhan said that over the last four days action has been taken against 205 vehicles without number plate.
More than 50 vehicles were impounded in the process. On Thursday and Friday, 4 wheelers as well as tempos were also impounded.
SP Capital has asked the tempo and trekker drivers to get a number plate on their vehicle in order to avoid fines and seizures.
He also said that about 1.5 lakh rupees has been collected in fines over the last four days. He emphasised that increasing fine collection is not a revenue measure but meant to create a strong awareness in people that basic rules will have to be followed.
