ASBA announces dates of 7th Dorjee Khandu Memorial State Badminton Championship

80 female participants and 243 male participants, with a total of 322 participants from the 23 district will be participate in the week long championship.

The Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA) is all set to organize its 7th Dorjee Khandu Memorial State Badminton Championship (DKMSBC) at  Itanagar from September 6-11 next. This tournament is Sponsored by the state’s Sports  department.

80 female participants and 243 male participants, with a total of 322 participants from the 23 district will be participate in the week long championship.

Addressing the media person here at Press Club on Tuesday, ASBA president Bamang Tago said that besides the 23 district, Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy (SLSA) and Capital Complex will also be taking part  in the championship.

“The winner of the championship will be selected to represent state in the regional and national competitions organized by the Badminton Association of India (BAI),”.

He  said while also informing that there will be seven categories of championship expanding from U-9 to U-19 years of age.

Tago also said that the whole tournament will be refereed by the international retired referee H. Gyaneswor from Manipur. The state grade-II umpires training will also be conducted simultaneously during the tournament, he added.

He informed that the states ace shuttler Laa Talar will be missing the tournament as he will be participating in a match which is scheduled to be held at Delhi. He added, that the tournament will be an international level.

When questioned on providing international level badminton court for the state players, Tago informed that the tender for the construction of Dorjee Khandu Badminton Academy has already been floated and very soon the players will have all the basic requirement in terms of infrastructure, training and other requirements.

Besides, Tago also informed that the top ranking badminton players of the last DKMSBC, Miss. Montilly Pul, Miss. Taku Neha, Kr. Pakli Bagra and Kr. Lobsang Choiden Sherdang has been selected by the BAI.

“These two girls and two boys have been selected by the BAI and they will be going through 15 days intense training in the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy (PPBA) at Karnataka,” he said while hoping that they will give their best during the training.
