The Doimukh SDO M Riba along with CO Doimukh, CO Gumto and other officers today conducted land verification at one of the disputed areas of Rajiv Gandhi University land which has been identified as encroached land and demarcated a boundary in the presence of university officers, Rajiv Gandhi University Students’ Union (RGUSU) members and LPC holders.

The portion situated at the backside of University Guest House is one of the areas identified as one of encroached land of RGU. Boundary wall construction of more than 300 meters stretches of the portion was halted by the RGUSU, over the dispute of land ownership.

SDO Doimukh while speaking to the media persons informed that the District administration received a letter from the RGU authority in the month of May stating the trouble they were facing for construction of boundary wall due to land encroachment.

He said that after verifying the alleged encroached lands they mapped out the university land and later compared with the LPC holders before making the final demarcation. He further added that they have verified two points at each ends, from which a straight line will be drawn. He added that the area that is inside the varsity will be of University and the land on the other side will be of the LPC holder.

“Today, we conducted verification and finalized the boundary demarcation of the area where the construction of boundary was halted. And any other issues pertaining to encroachment in other areas will be taken up when the university authorities intimate the district administration,” said Riba when asked of the development of other areas identified as encroached lands.

RGU Security officer, Techi Badal informed that disputes over land ownership at various areas of RGU land arose when the construction of University boundary wall started. He said that the construction of boundary wall was halted as there was a claim of the said portion that has been sorted out today from a LPC holder.

“Taking up the matter the university authority had written a letter to the DC Papum Pare. However, we got a reply from the District administration that they have not issued any LPC of the portion situated at the RGU side against the one who have claimed the plot. Later, some portions of the area were also assessed and discussed,” said Techi.

He also said that they convinced the person to surrender some portions of the areas as well whom they came to understanding and demarcated the portion today. He added that rather the demarcation has benefited the university.

He further added that the local administrators along with the university authorities and RGUSU have been working relentlessly to sort out the issue.

RGUSU President, Goda Karu recognizing the effort carried out by former RGUSU president, Giogi Aja and his team said that the positive result that has been finalized today was largely due to the effort started by the previous union members.

He further added that the boundary wall has been constructed at everywhere except the portion that has been demarcated today. He appealed the university authorities to take up the construction at the earliest.

“We do believe that the decision taken today will be the concrete and binding one for this portion of land and no further dispute will arise in future,” he stated adding that other disputed portions and some portions of university land that have been left out of newly constructed boundary line will be tackled separately.

“This is not the first time that the local administration, RGU authority and RGUSU have worked together. And history itself will show that RGUSU has all along played a vital role to tackle this land encroachment issue,” added Karu.
