Arunachal: Mein held review meeting with hydropower developers

Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, also the Minister Power, held a crucial two day review  meeting on September 24 and 25 with all the large hydropower developers who have been allotted HEPs in the State,

Hydropower can play a crucial role for the country and state’s sustainable development and energy security as it meets the criteria of sustainability, availability and reliability.

Viewing the importance of development of Hydropower projects  in the state, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, also the Minister Power, held a crucial two day review  meeting on September 24 and 25 with all the large hydropower developers who have been allotted HEPs in the State, at Arunachal Bhavan New Delhi to know and address the various issues and problem related to slow progress or stalled Hydropower projects in the State. A total of 32 developers attended the meeting.

After assuming the charge of minister power, Mein have been constantly prioritising to put several hydro projects on a fast track after some had been stalled for many years in the State.

During the detailed discussions, DCM heard various issues & problems of private developers and assured them that the state government will provide all the possible help in developing the projects.

Mein has also requested all the developers to speed up the process of developing these projects in war footing.

He observed that the hydropower is “clean, green, sustainable and also a cheap source of power in the long run” and has a long, useful life. The state government has drawn up plans for putting the hydropower projects under execution on fast track to harness 58160.2 mw of power.

The country is endowed with large hydropower reserves with total potential of 145320 MW , out of which Arunachal Pradesh, alone has 58160.2 MW capacity to harness ( 40% of the total potential of the country), added Mein.

CMD NEEPCO had also been called to discuss issues related  to their projects.

Among others, Commissioner power G S Meena, Advisor to State government  Harikrishna Paliwal and Chief engineer monitoring hydro power Joshi were also present.
