The State Unit BJP led by its President, Tapir Gao and General Secretary Jarpum Gamlin along with the State Office Bearers, Legislators and Morcha Members paid floral tribute to the departed soul of its Founding Member Professor Pura Tado who left for heavenly abode on Saturday last.
“He taught me when I was a college student at JNC, Pasighat,” remembered Gao while recalling Prof Pura who has been a teacher since 1977-78.
Gao credited him for  monumental contribution in sowing the seed of lotus in the hill state. Professor Pura contested as BJP candidate in 1988 from Itanagar Legislative Assembly Constituency when people knew nothing about BJP, Gao said.
While reminiscing of his association during the initial years of establishing the party, former President and a Founding Member Tabe Hare said, “Along with Shri PB Acharya (now Governor of Nagaland), we had identified Prof Pura that led him to contest the 1-Western Parliamentary seat during  the Parliamentary Election in 1990.”
We had no access to resources so we took out “Cycle Yatra” to spread BJP’s ideology and Philosophy,  Hare recalled.
Significantly State Vice President Nani Laeji stated that he wasn’t just an academician or a political leader but he was much more than that and was beyond his time.
“He was a social reformer. Many of socio-cultural reforms within Apatani tribe has his stamp all over,” Laeji said.
Former MLA,  Shri Nyato Rigia described him as a gentleman said, “He was my teacher in JNC and I remember him as a quiet, calm and a very supportive teacher.”
Earlier, State General Secretary Jarpum Gamlin kicked off the meeting with a minute of silence as mark of respect and read out his chequered biography and enviable career.
