Arunachal: Robin Hibu Inspires Students at RGU Event

Orientation programme at Rajiv Gandhi University highlights ₹5 crore scholarship initiative aimed at boosting civil services preparation among Northeast students.

ITANAGAR — An orientation programme aimed at promoting civil services preparation among students from the Northeast was held at Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) on April 1 under the North East Civil Services Talent Discovery & Access Mission (NECTDAM).

The programme was jointly organised by the university’s Placement Cell and Career Counselling Cell in collaboration with NEXT IAS and the non-profit organisation Helping Hands. It was conducted at the Mini Auditorium of the university and saw participation from students across various departments.

The initiative focused on raising awareness about the NECTDAM Scholarship Examination 2026–2027, which offers scholarships worth ₹5 crore to support over 2,000 students from the Northeast region. The organisers stated that the programme seeks to improve access to quality coaching for civil services aspirants, particularly those from underserved backgrounds.

Delivering the keynote address, senior IPS officer Robin Hibu highlighted the importance of perseverance, discipline, and clarity of purpose in achieving success in competitive examinations. Drawing from his own professional journey, he encouraged students to remain focused despite challenges and to approach their goals with commitment and integrity.

Hibu, a 1993-batch officer of the AGMUT cadre, currently serves as Special Commissioner of Police in Delhi and has previously held several senior positions, including roles in Arunachal Pradesh and international assignments under United Nations peacekeeping missions.

He also spoke about the work of Helping Hands, an organisation he leads, which provides support to people from the Northeast in areas such as crisis response, education, and career development.

The programme also featured technical sessions by resource persons from NEXT IAS. Neeraj Chouhan and Supriya Singh addressed students on preparation strategies, opportunities in civil services, and the structure of the scholarship initiative. They emphasised the importance of consistent preparation and informed guidance.

In a subsequent session conducted in collaboration with Success Point, Itanagar, speakers Ashish Ranjan and Akshay Jain shared practical insights into exam preparation, including strategy, time management, and exam-oriented approaches.

The event began with a welcome address and felicitation by Prof. S.K. Jena, Professor In-Charge of the Placement Cell, RGU. It concluded with an interactive session followed by a formal vote of thanks delivered by Placement Officer Susmita Chanda Dhar.

Organisers noted strong student engagement throughout the programme, reflecting growing interest in civil services careers among youth in the region.
