Police says a fire in at Abotani Colony in Daporijo has left at least 47 families homeless on Tuesday afternoon. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
The fire broke out around 6:30 p.m. gutted 30 houses, rendering 47 families homeless. There was, however, no report of any casualty, but one person is reported to have suffered burn injury in the fire.
Locals have alleged that fire tender(s) arrived to late. The damages could have been reduced if fire fighters responded quickly they added.
Local MLA Dikto Yekar appeal the state government for providing of relief and rehabilitation package for the fire victims of Abo-Tani Colony and strengthening of Daporjo fire station.
In view of the public complaint of in sufficient and late reaching of fire tender to the spot, MLA said that in some cases it is due to lack of proper space in approach road of the incident site.
Upper Subansiri Superintendent of Police Keni Bagra inform that the information was received of fire incident at around 6.20 P.M and three fire tender of Daporijo fire station rushed to the site and with lots of efforts and public and local support the fire was completely douse at around 8.30 PM.
Investigation is being done and the cause of the fire is not yet known while extent of damage is being done while exact cause of fire accident is yet to ascertain. Bagra added.
Meanwhile he praised the support and effort of local public, youths in the hour of need during the emergency.
