Itanagar
Capital Complex deputy commissioner Prince Dhawan in presence of Capital SP Sagar Singh Kalsi and Naharlagun EAC Hento Karga on Thursday unveiled the 1st ever ‘uniform’ of Auto drivers at a local city hotel here.
The uniform which would initially be worn by drivers falling under the umbrella of Naharlagun-Yupia Tempo Union (NYTU) would eventually see all the tempo and auto drivers of the Capital Complex wear it.
Addressing a large gathering of tempo and taxi drivers, the DC while lauding the initiative of the NYTU, All Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation (AAPPTF) as well as that of the state’s transport department for coming out with such an initiative, said that “the move would go a long way in terms of streamlining the transport bodies of state.”
“Wearing a uniform has its own benefits and at the same time has responsibilities too. Always wear you uniform with pride but make sure that you upkeep its significance as well,” Dhawan said, further calling upon all the commercial drivers to always be disciplined and not to take law in their hands.
Taking opportunity the DC also thanked all the transport unions and federations for extending their support to the district administration by defying the recent bandh call.
“The transport bodies of the Capital Complex proved that they are against such illegal bandh calls and they support development. This is always a positive sign. As you have supported the administration, we will also make sure that we support you in all your endeavors” Dhawan said.
“There are many ways to express your sentiments and the administration has always granted permission for taking out peace rallies and candle light marches, but calling illegal bandhs would not help anyone,” Dhawan said.
He further informed that the administration is trying its best to curb the ever growing traffic issues in the twin cities of Naharlagun and Itanagar and it would soon come with app-based cab and tempo services in the two townships which would in turn help curtail traffic congestion to a certain extent.
In terms of people driving taxis on private numbers, the DC cautioned that this trend should be stopped. For this he appealed the drivers and owners of the taxis to get their vehicles registered with commercial number plates so that it does not cause problems in the future.
Echoing the DC, EAC Karga in his speech appealed the tempo, truck and taxi drivers to always remain disciplined and be proud of the job that they do.
The development of a certain area, besides others, depends upon the transport facilities it has and accordingly the transport services is incomplete without the drivers. So be proud of your profession and help Arunachal become a developed state, said Kagra.
Terming the tempo and taxi drivers as the ‘eyes and ears’ of the police and administration, SP Singh in his speech sought their cooperation in terms of controlling the crime rate in the Capital region in particular.
Giving examples of cases occurred in other parts of the country wherein the auto and taxi drivers have helped police solve various cases, Singh assured that the police would always support the individuals who are right and one’s who obey the law of land.
AAPPTF president Dobing Sonam in his welcome address thanked the guests for making it to the event despite of their busy schedules and sought the cooperation of the police and administration to rationalize the transport services.
Addressing the tempo drivers in particular, Sonam appealed them to always wear their uniform with gratification.
“The tempo and auto drivers wearing a uniform will not only help people recognize them easily but it will at the same time also instill a sense of security for the passengers,” he said while further appealing the drivers to always follow traffic rules while driving their vehicles.
The president also appealed the guests to provide batches to the drivers and look into the parking issues that the tempo drivers face in Naharlagun by allotting them a specific parking lot.
Capital district transport officer Remar Gab who also spoke on the occasion urged upon the commercial drivers to always maintain their professional ethics whilst on duty.
Among others to speak on the occasion were NYTU president Raju Venia and secretary Ranjen Hangkar.
