NDFB Terrorist, Linkman Apprehended with Cash

The Districts in Lower Assam have been facing the ominous, omnipresent threat of extortion from the various terrorist groups for a long time. The groups, especially the NDFB(S) in Kokrajhar & Chirang, have been using extortion as a means of self-sustainment & procuring weapons, which are further used for terror activities. This has created a sense of havoc amongst the hard working communities of this area.
The Indian Army, in conjunction with the Assam Police, have launched comprehensive, sustained operations against the NDFB(S) and other such terrorist groups, in an ever successful bid to bring normalcy to the area.
The Army has also been launching specific operations against the network of Linkmen, who extort money on behalf of the groups and procure weapons for them. In the past two days, the Army and Police have launched major operations against various groups. As a result, the teams have apprehended a linkman of NDFB(S) in the wee hours of 12 June 16 from Kokrajhar District.
This particular operation was launched on receiving specific inputs about a linkman who was extorting large amounts of money and preparing to send it to the Bidai group. Reacting swiftly, the Army launched ops and apprehended Jibon Arjya, who was extorting cash to the tune of One Lakh Rupees. The cash was recovered from the Linkman along with a Pistol and ammunition, which he was using to threaten local businessmen and other people.
In another operation on 11 Jun, based on specific inputs from Military Intelligence, the Indian Army and Assam Police launched an operation in Goalpara District. The Army was informed regarding the suspicious movement of a terrorist of the dreaded Liberation of Achik Elite Force in the area of Deuripara, near Goalpara.
The team reacted swiftly and apprehended the terrorist on 11 June. He has been identified as Suparo Swargyari. He joined the LAEF in 2014 and has been active in carrying out subversive activities since then. One 7.65 mm Pistol has been recovered from the terrorist alongwith some ammunition.
These sustained operations have led to decrease in terror incidents and extortion activities. This is developing a sense of security amongst the people and as a result will bring development to the region, as a whole.
