While talking to Satyapal Malik, Rahul Gandhi asked him that that was the most complicated time during your tenure. He said this while referring to the abrogation of Article 370 and dividing the state as a Union Territory.

To this Malik said, “In my opinion, you cannot retain Jammu and Kashmir by force and through armed forces. You can do anything by winning people’s trust.

On this, Rahul Gandhi again asked him how Jammu and Kashmir will return to normalcy, on this Malik said that the government will have to restore the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir.

Satyapal Malik said that the abrogation of Article 370 and the abolition of full statehood was most painful for the people. I thought the government was thinking that the state police would revolt.

He never shared it with me. But the truth was that Jammu and Kashmir Police remained with the government and the policemen did not even take leave on the occasion of Eid.

He also said that statehood should be given back to Jammu and Kashmir, and this is also the promise made by Amit Shah to the people in Parliament and elections should be held immediately.

Rahul Gandhi said that the people of Jammu are also not happy with the government’s decision to snatch the statehood of Kashmir. After this Malik said that I don’t know why they are not doing this. Now extremism has returned again and terrorist activities have increased.

When Rahul Gandhi asked him about the Pulwama terror attack, Malik blamed the government’s lapses for the 14 February 2019 attack.

Speaking on Pulwama, Rahul Gandhi said that as soon as he learned about the incident, he went to the airport to pay tribute to the martyrs. I was locked in a room. I felt like it was an event. PM Modi was there. I had to struggle to get out of the room. It was quite unpleasant.

The former Governor said that the Prime Minister should have reached Srinagar. On the day of the incident, he was shooting at Jim Corbett. Then he called me in the evening and he asked me not to speak on this issue.

Malik claimed that I told two channels that it was our mistake but I was told not to say this anywhere. I felt that my statements might affect the investigation, but no investigation was done. It was used for elections. On the third day, Prime Minister Modi gave his speech where he used it politically.

After this Rahul Gandhi asked why the Pulwama incident happened. Malik replied that the CRPF had asked for five aircraft. If they had asked me, I would have provided it to them immediately, just as I had provided planes to the students stranded in the snow.

He also said that it is easy to hire a plane in Delhi. But his application languished in the Home Ministry for four months, and then it was rejected. After this the CRPF personnel took the road which was considered unsafe.

The explosive laden truck that attacked the CRPF vehicle was roaming in the area for about 10-12 days and our arrangements were not good.
