A six-member team of Arunachal Hindi Sansthan (AHS) headed by its Chairman Takam Sonia today called on Chief Minister Pema Khandu at his offices here this evening.
The NGO, working for promotion of Hindi language and its proper usage in the state, apprised the Chief Minister of its various activities and sought moral support of the state government in its endeavors. Incidentally, the Chief Minister is the organization’s Patron in-Chief.
Khandu lauded the noble initiatives of AHS, as he pointed Hindi is the most popular language of communication, easily understood by the masses.
“Arunachal Pradesh is known for its Hindi-speaking ability as over the years it has become the lingua-franca of its people,” he said.
He appreciated the concern expressed by Sonia on the textbooks like “Arun Bharati” that were part of the school curriculum in the 80s and 90s, which had topics on the indigenous tribes, beliefs, customs, etc of the state. The textbooks have since been discontinued.
“In fact, I came to know more about other tribes of the state through these textbooks during my early school days,” he said.
Sonia informed the Chief Minister that the Sansthan is working to revive the Arun Bharati days by researching and authoring chapters in Hindi on Arunachal Pradesh and its rich cultural heritage. He said AHS will pursue with the central government to include these chapters in the mainstream Hindi textbooks. In fact, AHS has already written to the PMO and MHRD in this regard, he informed.
The AHS Chairman also informed that they are promoting proper pronunciation through Hindi workshops for school children besides propagating usage of Hindi.
Sonia also suggested that Hindi medium may be introduced for conduction of state civil service examinations in line with the UPSC.
Khandu assured the members that he would discuss their suggestions in detail within the government and if feasible include in this year’s budget.
Meanwhile, all the young AHS members appreciated Khandu for his tough stance against corruption. Congratulating him on swearing in of the Lokayukta Chairman and Member earlier in the day, they asserted that the youths of Arunachal Pradesh have high expectations from him and had full confidence that he along with Team Arunachal would build a corruption-free new Arunachal in the years to come.
