Arunachal-Utkala Sanskrutika Parishad celebrates 84th Utkala Divasa

Arunachal-Utkala Sanskrutika Parishad (AUSP) celebrated 84th Utkala Divasa with great enthusiasm and fervour at a function in Rajiv Gandhi University campus here on Monday.

AUSU adviser Dr Manjula Mohapatra recalling the past glory of Odiyas led by Utkala Gouraba Madhusudan Das, Utkala Mani Gopabandhu Das, Maharaja Sri Ram Chandra Bhanj Deo, Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati, Pandita Nilakantha Das, Fakir Mohan Senapati, Gangadhar Meher, Basudeba Sudhaladeba, Radhanath Ray, Bhubananada Das, A P Patro, had launched movement after forming Utkala Sammilani in 1903.

This had forced the British to accept Odisha on linguistic basis as a province of India on this day in 1936, she said, and recalled that Arunachal governor Surendra Nath Dwivedi was instrumental in celebrating 1st Utkal Diwas in Raj Bhawan in 1992 followed by formation of AUSP, which has been celebrating the occasion since then.

The occasion saw bidding touching farewell to Gakul Chandra Baral, who joined at Raga as TGT on 01.06.81 and retired from state council of educational research & training (SCERT) assistant director (academic) on 31.01.19 and Sananada Pradhan, who had joined as English PGT in Boleg B K Mission School in 1992 and retired as SCERT) assistant director (English) on 31.03.19.

AUSP president Chhabi Nayak, GS Sushanta Nayak, advisers Pradeep Kumar & Kalpalata Behera, RGU’s political science Prof P K Panigrahi, economics Prof S K Nayak, education Prof Jayadeb Sahoo & geography Prof Nishamani Kar, among others, lauded invaluable contributions of the duo to education sector while serving in interior areas when outsiders hesitated to go to interior areas to serve. “Your services will always be cherished by the state,” they added.

The duo reciprocating the gesture said they would always be missing the company of AUSP members in rest of their lives.

The function begun with rich tributes to late Dwivedi by senior members while tiny tots Dedanishi Patra &  Jigyanasha Achrya and two senior woman members through their cultural programmes showcased rich cultural heritage of Odisha.
