Arunachal: KGWST members donates 22 units blood

The BPGH needs more than 60-70 units of blood every month, but voluntary donation is very less leading to scarcity.

The Kayi Gumín Welfare Society-Tekang (KGWST) members donated 22 units blood given voluntarily during a camp at Bakin Pertin General Hospital (BPGH) here on Saturday.

Applauding KGWST for its various charitable works, Medical superintendent Dr. Y R Darang exhorted other civil society bodies to emulate their example.

The BPGH needs more than 60-70 units of blood every month, but voluntary donation is very less leading to scarcity, blood bank officers Dr. Gegong Jongkey and Dr. Kaling Jerang said and added that more donors like KGWST will of immense help.

The endeavour aims at bringing smile in the faces of needy, said KGWST president Tapok Tamuk, vice president Boyem Jerang, secretary general Bajing Tayeng, senior advisor Taram Darang.

The state still blood crisis with its annual requirements of around 15,000 units as voluntary blood donation camps routinely conducted by Arunachal Vivekananda Yuva Shakti, other NGOs and societies facilitate collection of about 5,000 units.

It may be mentioned here that the state has total of 12 blood banks including one each at Seppa (East Kameng), Khonsa (Tirap) and Longding (Longding) opened in February last.
