Arunachal: 7 days Longte festival of Nyishi tribe begins

One of the biggest festival of Nyishi tribe of state “Longte” began with lots of fanfare and enthusing among the people in different parts of state.
Attending the function in Itanagar as chief guest Nyishi Art & Culture Welfare Society (NACWS) Chairman Bengia Tabb said that any festival gives us a message for preservation of old rituals and culture and legacy which have been carried out by our forefather in the interest and well being of the community, tribe and society as whole.
He said that the Longte festival is unique as there is no bloodshed and no sacrifices is being officered to god and goddess and is bloodless. This legacy is being carried from time immemorial. To drive away and to get away from the evil spirit people living in villages began to construct barricade and such barricade become the safety for the community and the celebration of Longte began. These barricading are being done for the wellbeing and welfare and god bless all.
He shown his concern in rapid increase of drugs cases and case of rape and murder in different parts of state and said it is not good for the society and termed it as another evil for the society. Tabb said that there is a need of construction of another barricade in the society to get rid of such evil from he society and specially there is a need of protection of girl child as girls are in form of sister, wife, mother and daughter.
He called upon the youth to come up and take up the social issue of the society and work for the upliftment of the community and become a fine gentleman for the rapid development of state and its people.
Guest of Honour Itanagar Police Station OC Tabi Bage while said that Longte festival is of Tani clan is a traditional identity which need to be preserved and today youths need to follow. All descendent of AboTani should observed and it need to be taken up in outer world resemble non sacrifice of animal and whch itself signify for wellbeing and welfare of the humanity.
Longte-2018 Celebration Committee Nyokum Lapang, Itanagar (LCCNLI) Organising Chairman Yumlam Achung, Organising Secretary Pani Tare among others also address the gathering.
The dignitaries also kick off the games and sporting competition and traditional food stalls at the Nyokum Lapang ground which shall continue for next 7 days while there will be cultural night every day where several renowned artist of state will performed their numbers.
Earlier this morning the Longte flag was hosted by the LCCNLI Yumlam Achung in presence of the huge gathering followed by several cultural items performed by several artist from the different parts of capital complex and even the districts.
A audio album ‘mwnam’ was also released on the occasion which was produced by Gyptar production sing by Toko Tani, Rinko Cheda, Toko Ania and others.
