Miglung Village in East Siang Declared Chemical-Free Village

The initiative aims to promote sustainable farming, improve soil health and encourage farmers to adopt biological and eco-friendly agricultural inputs.

MIGLUNG ( East Siang )- Miglung village in East Siang district has been formally adopted as a Chemical-Free Village by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), East Siang, marking a significant step towards promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural practices in the area.

KVK East Siang organised an awareness programme on chemical-free farming in Miglung on Friday, where farmers were sensitised to the importance and benefits of reducing chemical-based agricultural inputs. Dr. Brijendra Singh, Principal Scientist and Head of KVK East Siang, explained the objectives and process involved in developing Miglung as a Chemical-Free Village.

The programme was attended by Arunachal Pradesh MLA Ninong Ering, ZPM Tabir Tatan, East Siang District Agriculture Officer Dana Moyong and Prof. P. Debnath of the Department of Natural Resource Management, CHF CAU(I). Ering formally declared Miglung a Chemical-Free Village and urged farmers to adopt sustainable agricultural practices.

A key focus of the programme was green manuring, which Ering highlighted as an important practice for improving soil health and reducing farmers’ dependence on chemical fertilisers. The emphasis reflects a broader effort to promote farming methods that rely more on environmentally friendly and biological inputs.

KVK experts also conducted technical sessions covering different aspects of chemical-free agriculture. Dr. Navya Bhat, SMS (Horticulture), spoke about chemical-free nursery raising and vegetable cultivation, while Dr. Neeta Longjam, SMS (Veterinary & Animal Husbandry), addressed chemical-free livestock rearing. Dr. Dinesh Kumar, Assistant Professor at CHF CAU(I), provided guidance on soybean cultivation.

To support the initiative, farmers were provided with soybean seeds, Rabi-season Pusa beej, Beauveria bassiana and CAU liquid biofertilizer. The distribution is intended to encourage the adoption of biological and eco-friendly alternatives in farming.

The programme was coordinated by Dr. Toge Riba and concluded with an emphasis on collective participation by farmers and stakeholders to develop Miglung as a model for safe, sustainable and chemical-free agriculture.

An awareness programme on Parthenium Week was also organised for local farmers during the event, with 51 villagers participating.

The adoption of Miglung as a Chemical-Free Village places the focus on changing farming practices at the community level, particularly through improved soil management, biological inputs and farmer training. The long-term success of the initiative will depend on sustained participation and continued technical support for farmers.
