Dr. Nabam Tata, who has been conferred the Degree of Philosophy Honoris Causa by Guahati University was felicitated by Nyishi Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society (NIFCS) and Indigenous Faith, Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh (IFSAP) and Central Nyedar Namlo, Doimukh at Raj Bhavan, Itanagar on 2nd May 2017. The Governor, P.B. Acharya and Chief Minister Pema Khandu felicitated Dr. Tata on behalf of the above principle organizations working for the preservation, promotion and propagation of Indigenous faith and culture in the State. They also Smti Nabam Mekha, wife of Dr. Nabam Tata.
Presiding over the function, the Governor Mr Acharya, who has been championing for the preservation of tribal culture and traditions, said that such conferring of degrees and felicitation will motivate people to work harder for the cause of the society.
The Governor, while recalling his idea of conferring degrees to silent workers in the society disclosed that when he was the Governor of Assam and Chancellor of Guahati University, he had advised the Vice Chancellor of the University to explore it and recommended the names of Dr. Nabam Tata and Dr. Tasile N. Zeliang of Nagaland, a social work.
The Governor congratulated the Chancellor of Guahati University and Governor of Assam Shri Banwarilal Purohit and Vice Chancellor, Gauhati University, Dr. Mridul Hazarika for selecting an Arunahalee and honouring him with honorary degree. It is a great recognition and honour for the State also, he added. This year for the first time, the Guahati University has conferred degrees to them.
Expressing his happiness that Nabam Tata from Arunachal Pradesh and Smt Tasile N. Zeliang from Nagaland have been conferred with degrees, the Governor reiterated that the Universities must recognise people from all walks of life for their selfless and unique services to the society and the Nation. It will encourage the dedicated and extraordinary individuals and also motivate many others to work for preservation of the rich and treasured cultural heritage, environment and overall prosperity and empowerment of every section of the society and gender.
At the same time, it should produce graduates who can create wealth and harness the potential of the State. He expressed his concern about diminishing work culture amongst the people and said that State will prosper only when each one of us work with the spirit of ‘work is worship’.
Exhorting the empowered people their duties and obligation towards the society, the Governor said that achievers must be givers. He called upon the people to take care of the labourers, poor and disadvantage section of the society, while reminding that strength of a chain is in the weakest link. The dormant energies in the society must be made vibrant.
The Chief Guest of the occasion, Chief Minister Shri Pema Khandu, while congratulating Dr. Nabam Tata, thanked the Chancellor and Vice Chancellor of Guahati University and said that it is a great honour to the State and its people. He also expressed his gratitude to the Governor Shri Acharya for his innovative and vital contributions to the people since it’s nascent stage in mid 1960s.
Appreciating the indigenous faith and cultural organizations for organizing the felicitation programme, the Chief Minister said that youth of the day need to be educated regarding their faiths. More researches have to conducted for protection and preservation of the indigenous faiths and culture. The State Government is very serious about it and is always with them.
While accepting the honour, Dr. Nabam Tata thanked the society for it and said that the honour has increased his responsibilities towards the society. I share this honour with every member of the society, he added.
For me, it is a whistleblower. It is call of the time for putting our heads together and stand and strive for the society particularly for the younger generations so that they move forward in life with proper aim and objective, Dr. Nabam Tata pointed.
Organising Secretaries of IFCSAP and NIFCS, Shri Bai Taba and Gichik Taaza also spoke on the occasion.
Kargu Gamgi, Naharlagun and Nyedar Namlo, Doimukh presented prayer songs. A traditional dance was presented by school children.
First Lady of the State Smt Kavita Acharya, State CIC Dr. Zoram Begi, Chairman, Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh (IFSAP), Dr. Ligu Tacho, Chairman, Nyishi Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society (NIFCS) Er. Pai Dawe and large number of guests and invitees were present on the occasion.
