Under construction steel suspension bridge on National Highway on Orang-Kalaktang-Shergoan-Rupa Tenga Road (OKSRT) road in West Kameng district  collapsed near Balemu on Tuesday, informed  T Aran, ADC Kalaktang.

Aran informed that ” four labourers were injured during the mishap and they have been evacuated for immediate  treatment out of which two of them were referred to Guwahati and now they are fine. The OKSRT road is being executed by Border Road Task Force (BRTF).

He inform that the bridge is executing by the Competent Infrastructure, a Guwahati based civil firm under sub-contract terms through Bridge construction company (BCC) of BRO. further he have directed the BRTF to ascertain the reason of the collapse.

I have directed the Balemu Police to immediately conduct an inquiry and investigate the reason of the collapse and submit a report. ADC further said.

Meanwhile , West Kameng Superintendent of Police, Raja Bhantia when contacted said that the police is investigating the matter. He said that “Bomnag bridge, which is located near 1700 chain was entrusted to M/S Competent Infrastructure and consulting (P) Ltd.by BRO.

Accordingly the aforesaid company constructed the bridge. and was on the verge of completion and it is also learnt that it was supposed to hand over to BRO on 07/12/2019. But on 26/11/2019 suddenly the bridge was collapsed, during that period four labourers were on their task. they sustained minor injuries”. SP said.

He said that as per expert opinion. it  was collapsed due to technical fault. However discreet enquiry is underway and the exact cause of the collapse of the almost completed bridge would be known after completion of the investigation process. SP added.
