Tawang
Panchayat leaders from Tawang district representing the three assembly constituencies – Mukto, Tawang and Lumla formally joined the BJP today en-masse leaving the Congress party. The 100% merger of all 384 panchayat leaders representing the gram, anchal and zilla in the district was formally accepted by State BJP President, Tapir Gao in a formal function organized by the district BJP party at Kala Wangpo Convention Hall.
Congratulating and welcoming the panchayat leaders into the BJP fold, Chief Minister Pema Khandu said the day of merger into BJP party, was an auspicious occasion as it coincided with important festivals in the country and the state.
“The Vasant Panchami, the start of spring season is celebrated today. On same day is celebrated the festival of Sarawsati Puja in Bengal, Festival of Kites in Western Punjab and in Arunachal, Mishmi community is celebrating the Reh festival today,” said the Chief Minister.
Also he added that the day coincided with the auspicious occasion of His Holiness Dalai Lama as it is considered as lucky day for him.
The Chief Minister said that under the party leadership of Gao, BJP hopes to complete the merger of all panchayat leaders in the entire state before 20th February.
Lamenting the Congress activities and ideology, Khandu said the Congress party policies, plans and programmes were not in tune with the Indian culture and promoted westernization.
He said initially the Congress had good leader, but with time the leadership deteriorated and only the corrupt people are seated in the high level. The Chief Minister spoke about the experiences shared by late Dorjee Khandu, former CM of Arunachal who had to work under immense pressure under the dictates of Congress party high command.
“From the day one, Congress ideology didn’t suit me though I held various party position in my political career, said Khandu and added that he was never personally against any individual but was against the Congress party way of conduct.
“No matter who become the CM of Arunachal, dictates from Congress high command will never allow the state to progress smoothly as money culture has taken deep roots in the party. Because of money culture, leaders are compelled to become corrupt. Congress party is founded on corrupt practices and such ideology can never be good for Arunachal,” he said.
Adding humor, Khandu said within the span of six months, he became the CM of three parties. During such transition, law and order breakdown is likely but the change of party followed a smooth route.
“This sends a clear cut message that people of Arunachal has faith on my government. However, the faith is not because of Pema Khandu, but because of good work done by late Dorjee Khandu,” said the Chief Minister in the district executive meeting that followed after the merger function.
He said all the big development projects in the state still running today was brought by late Dorjee Khandu – such as Trans Arunachal highway, Civil secretariat, Assembly complex, MLA apartment, ALGs, etc. Khandu, however, regretted that successive governments could not complete these projects and promised to complete it during his tenure.
Lamenting that Arunachal has become joke due to political instabilities, the Chief Minister said he will review performance of all ministers and also hold meetings on committee of secretaries and officers, vowing to bring work culture. They will have to present their work progress and inform on any new initiatives if they have taken. Appropriate reward will be bestowed on performing ministers with additional allocation of departments, he said.
Spelling out on development activities being planned for the state, the Chief Minister said railway connectivity is being proposed for foothill areas. Pasighat railway line is already sanctioned, and survey proposal for Tezu- Parashuram Kund-Rupai route has been accepted. Further, Bam-Aalo railway line proposal has been accepted including Bhalukpong-Tawang railway line is being proposed.
“With these improved connectivity, we can realize the full potential of the state,” said Khandu and spelled his vision to make Aruanchal an organic state.
Informing that this year budget will be a ‘budget with difference’, .he said the budget will be BJP government budget and a pro-poor one. The budget will be laid out as per per capital head and revenue head discarding the earlier and plan and non-plan style. Through this, Khandu hoped to commence all development works immediate after passing of budget, leaving no scope for last minute work execution and corruption.
He further said the centre will be asked to send to monitoring team to review work on all flagship programmes, and will be not confined only to Tawang and West Kameng districts, but will be asked to visit other districts too.
Speaking on the occasion, Gao appreciating the hard working nature of Monpa people, and called for making Tawang an example for other districts in development matters. He advised them to always wear smile and to keep up the good tradition of treating guests with full respect.
RWD Parliamentary Secretary Jambey Tashi, Sports Parliamentary Secretary Nyamar Karbak and Tawang MLA Tsering Tashi also spoke on the occasion. Tawang ZPC Chairman Jambey Tsering, also attended the formal merger celebration including senior BJP leaders Tsering Gyurme, Naresh Glow, Tapen Siga, Maling Gombu and district BJP president Sange Chhodup.
