BSF Confiscates Huge Quantity of Wooden Logs with Two Pickup

The Troops of 11 Bn BSF deployed at Dulainala, South West Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya seized 196.78 Cft Wooden logs with two Bolero Pickup worth approx Rs. 17 Lacs.

The BSF party patrolling near zero line and noticed the suspected vehicle. They challenged the drivers to stop, both the vehicle tried to escape. The BSF troops chased the fleeing vehicle and trapped both wooden slipper laden pickup vehicles. However, both the driver managed to escape from being arrested, taking advantage of thick vegetation and undulating ground.

The BSF party seized both the vehicle along with wooden logs. It is mentioned that particularly in this area of wooden log smugglers have been attempting their nefarious activities due to demand of the costly wooden sleepers in Bangladesh for various purpose.

 The consignment brought from near forest area of Mawsynram was being smuggled to Bangladesh through Naukaria Nullah. It is mentioned that despite the Border Security Force has been seizing wooden logs rampantly at from International Border, the smugglers trying to smuggle wooden logs to Bangladesh in greed of handsome money in comparison to Indian market. The troops of BSF also seized 999.224 Cft worth over 33 lacs from International Border during last two weeks while being smuggled out from India to Bangladesh through Simsang river, South Garo Hills districts of Meghalaya.

Since few days there have been heavy rainfall in Meghalaya which smugglers have been exploiting to smuggle wooden logs form of small rafts by dropping them in to these rivers/nullah which are thieve associates to collect in Bangladesh after it crossed International Boundary. The BSF troops these illegal consignment tirelessly by putting their life at stake while pulling out heavy logs out of flooded river.

All the seized items handed over to concerned department for further legal action.
