Arunachal: Chowna Mein Inaugurates Transformative Developments at Mahabodhi Centre, Deomali

The ceremony featured the inauguration of an extended Venerable Acharya Buddharakkhita Boy's Hostel with a dining hall and enhanced amenities.

DEOMALI- In a momentous tribute to the revered Founder of Mahabodhi Society in India, Venerable Dr. Acharya Buddharakkhita, on account of his birth centenary, Dy CM Chowna Mein graced the 38th Annual Poi Kanto Sangha & Maha Kathina Ceremony at the Mahabodhi Centre, Natun Basti, Deomali in Tirap District today.

Mein, known for his commitment to education and development, took part in unveiling pivotal infrastructure expansions at the Centre, underscoring the commitment to providing a holistic approach to human resource development.

The ceremony featured the inauguration of an extended Venerable Acharya Buddharakkhita Boy’s Hostel with a dining hall and enhanced amenities. Additionally, a newly consecrated Meditation Hall was introduced, providing monks and students with a serene space for spiritual contemplation and mindfulness.

DCM Chowna Mein also launched the second phase of Mahabodhi Rising Wisdom School in the Centre. New classrooms, a library and a computer lab are part of this phase, which aims to improve the learning environment and give students modern facilities for their academic journey.

The school imparts both monastic teachings and NCERT curriculum to the students. Emphasizing on this, Mein stated that GoAP is supportive of all initiatives that preserve the ancient culture and heritage of the land. He also assured continued support of the Govt towards the infrastructure development of the school.

DCM Mein, reflecting on Acharya Buddharakkhita’s life, emphasized the importance of preserving age-old culture and traditions for overall growth and development. He recalled Acharya’s dream of establishing a Buddhist University in Arunachal Pradesh and his efforts to draft plans for it. While a college named Mahabodhi Lord Buddha College was established in Namsai, Mein expressed his enduring vision for a Buddhist University in the State, echoing the ancient legacy of institutions like Nalanda University, where education and culture coexist harmoniously.

Mein expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Mahabodhi Educational, Cultural and Social Welfare Society of Arunachal Pradesh for their sacrificial life for humanitarian service to the society and for imparting value based educations to the children. He emphasized the pivotal role such initiatives play in human resource development and empowerment of the region. The ceremony marked not just the physical expansion of the Mahabodhi Centre but also a spiritual tribute to the ideals and teachings of Most Venerable Acharya Buddharakkhita, inspiring generations to come.

Most Venerable Acharya Buddharakkhita, born in Imphal, Manipur, and an engineer graduate from Kolkata, played a pivotal role in the Indian Freedom Movement. Having experienced the violence of the Second World War during his military service, he later renounced worldly pursuits to seek peace and truth. His journey led him to the path of Buddha, and under the guidance of the Most Venerable Chandamani Mahathera, he became known as Venerable Acharya Buddharakkhita. He scarified his whole life in study, practice and teaching of the Buddha’s words by establishing Mahabodhi Society, Bengaluru.

The event was also attended by Minister of PHE, DoTCL & IT, Wangki Lowang, President Maha Bodhi Society, Venerable Kassapa Mahathera Bhante, Gen Secy Maha Bodhi Society Venerable Ananda Bhante, Director of Mahabodhi Society, Venerable Asaji Bhante, Former Minister Shri Wangpha Lowang, DC Tirap, ADC Deomali & SP Tirap among other dignitaries.

Later, DCM Mein paid a visit to Adhyayan -The Learning Pavilion at Govt Upper Primary School at NTC Deomali and at Wangcha Rajkumar Govt College, Deomali, Tirap. This is the district’s modern learning centre with innovative ideas, initiated by ADC Deomali, Vishakha Yadav to instill reading habits amongst the school children and college students with attractive features and updated information creating a conducive atmosphere for studies.

He also visited the Digi-kaksha’ (Smart Classroom), a unique initiative by ADC Deomali at Govt Upper Primary School, NTC Deomali and interacts with students and teachers. ‘Digi-kaksha’ is a digital class room that focuses on integrating digital tools into the curriculum, ensuring that students have access to technology-enhanced learning experiences, and preparing them for a tech-driven future.

Mein lauded the initiative of the ADC Deomali, Vishakha Yadav and assured Govt support for further strengthening the man power and infrastructure requirements of the Govt Schools and the College.
