Mein emphasis on sharing of resource and research among the North Eastern States

Deputy Chief of Arunachal Pradesh, Chowna Mein emphasised on sharing of resource and research among the North Eastern States. He was interacting with the Team of Nagaland Bio-Resource Mission this morning at Kohima today.

Mein said that agro-climatic conditions of North Eastern States are almost similar and stated that best practices in one of the state can be emulated in other states. For this he suggested for continuous interactions and sharing of knowledge among the officers of North-East States. He opined that the GDP of the region can be improved through agriculture and allied sectors and more emphasised must be given to enhance the agricultural production.

 He further said that eight sisters of North East is a single family and we must addressed the problem together properly through North East MP’s Forum and North East Speaker’s Forum.

 Mein said to take up the creation of North-East Bio-Resource Centre in the right earnest as suggested by the Agriculture Production Centre, Nagaland stating that North Eastern States is a bio-diversity hot-spots.

 T Imkonglemba Ao, IAS, Agriculture Production Commissioner of Nagaland said that North Eastern States are rich in Bio-resource, aromatic and Medicinal Plants and the region can contribute significantly to the mainland India in terms of production of medicines.

Dr Kuruolalie Tshuro, Team Leader, Nagaland Bio-Resource Mission highlighted the activities by the NBRM through power point presentation. A PPT was also presented on the Cultivation and Prospects of Agar in Nagaland.

It was informed that the Nagaland Bio Resource Mission (NBRM) was launched by the Government of Nagaland on 26th July 2007 with a view to harness the rich potential biological resources of the state. It was initiated to adopt a Mission mode approach to promote partnership, convergence & synergy amongst the stakeholders involved in conservation, promotion and development of bio-resources of the state.

The Deputy Chief Minister also visited Nagaland Bamboo Mission Centre and Naagaland Beekeeping & Honey Mission, Multi-Utility Centre near Dimapur.

He was accompanied by Egam Basar, Head, SHRDI and D Yonggam, Research Officer, SMPB, Chimpu, Itanagar.
