Meghalaya: Arunachal CM visits North East Food Show in Shillong

Chief Minister congratulated the entrepreneurs from Arunachal and department of Horticulture for putting up a good exhibition show.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu today attended the North East Food Show, the Northeast’s biggest food innovation exhibition organized by govt of Meghalaya and SIAL India.

On arrival at the venue of food show here at Polo Grounds, Chief Minister visited the Arunachal food stalls. He interacted with the young entrepreneurs from the state who had come from different districts in Arunachal to showcase their brand of organic tea, local wines, horticulture produces, wine, and other processed foods.

Speaking to the media, Chief Minister congratulated the entrepreneurs from Arunachal and department of Horticulture for putting up a good exhibition show. Chief Minister said a report would be sought on the outcome of the exhibition from the department to give support of hand holding to the entrepreneurs from the state.

To boost investment in Arunachal, Chief Minister said the state government is taking steps to make way for investors from Arunachal and other states including foreign countries to invest in the state. He said special tax concessions and subsidies would be provided to investors to encourage investment to boost economy of the state. He also said an investor summit will be organized in the state to encourage investors from and outside the state to invest in Arunachal.

On mega food park, Chief Minister said the project will not only boost food industry to develop but also help in getting thousands of youths to gain meaningful employment. He said state government has provided all basic facilities such as road, water and electricity for the food park to be developed. He also informed that meeting has been held with promoters to get work done immediately on the ground.

Following the visit to stalls, Chief Minister met young entrepreneurs from Northeast and briefed them about the investment prospects in the state.

The celebration of North East Food Show began with the ceremonial cake cutting in presence of Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma, Tripura CM Biplab Deb, Union MoS for Food Processing Industries Rameshwar Teli, Union MoS (Ind) for Sports Kiren Rijiju and other dignitaries.

A formal meeting followed where dignitaries spoke on the importance of NorthEast Food Show. Arunachal Chief Minister said the state is giving special focus on improving surface connectivity to encourage investment in the state. He said works on industrial corridor, railway lines along the state’s foothill areas including Airports and highways are being taken up speedily. He said Arunachal is steadily preparing itself to become investor friendly state.

Chief Minister said the challenge the farmers of the state are facing is lack of market intelligence. Therefore the state is unable to optimally use its vast agriculture and horticulture potential despite huge land of 22 lakhs ha available for farming. Despite the challenge, state government is giving highest priority to development of agriculture and horticulture, said the CM. He said various schemes including devolution of funds for Deputy Commissioner and huge loans are being made available for startup.
