Itanagar: ‘Fact Checking’ workshop exclusively for working journalists

Google News Initiative in collaboration with Arunachal Press Club has organised ‘Fact Checking’ workshop exclusively for working journalists here at Dorjee Khandu Convention center. Scores of working journalists from Itanagar attended the session. A Delhi based Google News Initiative teaching fellow Geetika Rustagi was supported by Nellie Manpoong of The Arunachal Times who received training of trainers at Kolkata earlier this year.
Nellie in her session dwelt on types of misinformation and disinformation and how to verify photos, videos and social audit to verify the identity of users. The workshop was largely dwelt on identifying fake photos, fake videos and check fake news with objective to build a stronger future of journalism.
Google News Initiative has launched a pan-India training series for journalists
on online verification and fact-checking and other courses, in 30 cities in 10 languages. Since 2016, Google has trained more than 13,000 journalists in India, across 200+ newsrooms and in 40 cities, it said.
