Itanagar: Bamboo is as gold for Arunachal- Prince Dhawan

Capital Deputy Commissioner Prince Dhawan today inaugurated Bamboo Depot on NH-415 near Modirijo at 6 Kilo between Itanagar-Naharlagun amid huge gathering of locals.

Addressing the gathering Dhawan lauded the work of the locals in the business and entrepreneur development as well as economic sustainable development of the family involved in the business through bamboo.

Terming the “bamboo as gold” for tribal people of Arunachal, Itanagar DC  said that it have lots of utility and every items and products are prepared out of bamboo like dwelling, kitchen items, household materials and other items including bamboo shoot as food items and it play an important role in the tradition and culture of the tribal people of the state and region.

He said there is a need of maintaining discipline with  principle in life and it need to maintained by the IMBWC and requested them to use the specified and designated place for the purpose with cleanness.

Referring to the memorandum submitted by the committee Dhawan said that “few places were notified for vendors  and they area now doing their business with respect. He directed EAC Itanagar with support of Magistrates to conduct eviction drive to those who do not maintain discipline.

In Later stage the administration will selected and allotted at a  permanent place and the present area is designated as Bamboo depot temporary until the construction of the highway is finalised.  He further appeal the general public to pay the garbage collection charge to the NGOs those who are clearing the garbage in the capital complex

He assured a community toilet under phase-II and since 46 toilet is under construction and few have already been inaugurated and all would be completed by next one month.

Guest of honour  IMC WardNo-18 Councillor Gora Lotak said that we are tribal’s and without bamboos many  daily use including traditional are totally dependent on bamboo which including construction of houses, local utility items and food items and others. He emphasis to stick to a place for business without disturbing other and traffic flow on the highway. He lauded the Capital DC in all day to day activities including Swchh Bharat abhyan,

All Arunachal Pradesh Hawkers and Street Vendors Federation  (AAPH&SVF) President Khyoda Yaji attending the function as special guest discourage selling of bamboo in the township area and requested the DC to carry out eviction  to those who are selling bamboo in the urban area.

Itanagar Market Bamboo Welfare Committee (IMBWC) President Charu Yasuk in her presidential address said that there are 36 family totally depended on this business, mostly of them are uneducated and carry hard labour and earn butter and bread for the family and economic sustainability of the family.

Since 2001 we have been facing lots of problems due to non allotment of permanent land for establishment of our business but after 2008 we have been allotted this place for the purpose, she urge upon the DC to demarcate the land finally for the business with land protection measures for the area.

IMBWC IPR Secretary Khyoda Taha, Advisor Romik Chapo, Action Chairman Ha Taji among other address the gathering.

Itanagar EAC I Bassar, AAPHSVF General Secretary Nabam Rojer, local leaders of the area among others were present on the occasion.
