Gajraj Corps organises basic Horse Riding & Animal Management Camp

The Gajraj Corps organised a two months long Basic Horse Riding and Animal Management Camp for the wards of service personnel. The Camp organised at Solmara cantonment in Tezpur aimed to give the children an exposure on handling of horses and take it up as a hobby as also to provide a platform to the children to develop their skills in equestrian sport for their subsequent professional participation.

The camp that started on 10th of June, was attended by 32 children who were imparted training in animal management skills to include grooming, feeding, saddling of animals as well as equitation skills like Trotting, Canter, Galloping, Show jumping and Dressage. The children were also exposed to “Equine Therapy” during the conduct of the camp.

The camp culminated in an enthralling performance of show jumping by the children and magnificent display by the Mule Trick Riding Team of the Animal Transport Battalion of Gajraj Corps on the 8th of August, which showcased doing various antics like somersaulting on moving mules.

Lt Gen AS Bedi, YSM, VSM, GOC  Gajraj Corps gave away the prizes to the winners of the equitation competition in two disciplines – ‘Pole Bending’ and ‘Bucket and Ball’ while Mrs Annupma Bedi, Zonal President, Gajraj AWWA gave away the certificates to the participants. The Finale also showcased a Fencing display to get the youngsters interested in yet another challenging sport.
