The controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill is likely to be presented in Rajya Sabha today. Home Minister Rajnath Singh is expected to table the Bill in the House. The bill was passed in Lok Sabha in January.
Assam and other north-eastern states have been witnessing protests over the Bill that seeks to provide citizenship to religious minority groups from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
The two BJP Chief Ministers Pema Khandu and N Biren Singh, on Monday voiced their opposition to the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill and urged Home Minister Rajnath Singh to ensure it was not passed in Rajya Sabha.
