Itanagar
The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) and Student’s Union of NERIST (SUN) on Wednesday has served one month ultimatum to Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) Government of India for the grant of permanent director at North East Regional Institute of Technology (NERIST) by 24 February next.
Stating that despite of many representation and assurances given thereof to them on the appointment of permanent Director for NERIST but the same has not translated into tangible action, President SUN Banta Natung in a press conference here at Arunachal Press Club (APC) said, the lackadaisical attitude from the Ministry in regard to grant permanent Director has been dragging since 2013.
“In fact MoS (Home) Kiren Rijiju on 30 October 2017 last, while inaugurating the annual cultural event of NERIST has assured to appoint a regular Director within the month of November 2017 but everything seems to be void,” said Natung adding that the incumbent Director in charge cum Vice – Chancellor Tamo Mibang took up the responsibility reluctantly as his primary obligation is with the Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) which does not allow him to devote ample time for NERIST.
Appealing, MHRD to appoint regular director from any other institute but not from NERIST, Natung further went on to asserted that they have past experience and seen enough where appointed in charge director from the NERIST entirely failed to serve the need of the students most importantly for the development of institution.
While extending their full support to the students of NERIST, AAPSU general secretary Tobom Dai said it is very sadden to know that due to lack of regular director various department’s students including PhD students are facing innumerable problems for the last four years.
“We need someone who can streamline the every problems of NERIST and it could be possible only if the institution have regular director,” said Dai
Informing that SUN and AAPSU is left with no other option to resort democratic movement if the demand is not met within the given period of time, AAPSU, Vice president (Admin) Mije Taku “till date mechanical students are facing many problems and even some PhD students had already left the institute due non disbursement of scholarship in time,” adding that both SUN and AAPSU is looking forward for timely resolve of the issue so that declining reputation of NERIST which cater thousands of students from across the North East Region State.
Earlier, before sitting for press conference SUN and AAPSU with a slogan ‘Johny Johny Yes Papa’ ‘Regular Director Yes Papa’ In charge Director No Papa’ had taken out a rally which begins from NERIST to Bage Tinali and again culminate at NERIST.
