Arunachal: Man arrested by SIT for extorting money from politician

Special investigation team (SIT) of Arunachal Pradesh Police arrested one Ranjan Bikash Boragohain for extorting money from high profile politicians from North East including the Arunachal Pradesh, informed Arunachal Pradesh Police, Public Relation Officer in a press release.
SIT Team Comprising of Inpst. N.Lali & Inspt. P.Nikang led by SP SIT Dr. Navdeep Singh Brar, has arrested Ranjan Bikash Borgohain @ Bikash @ Ramen Barua, resident of Sukapa Nagar, Moranhat, Dibrugarh Assam, who claimed to be senior commander of ULFA-I from Moran police station area of Dibrugarh district in Assam,
Ranjan is involved in extorting money from high profile politicians from North East including the Arunachal Pradesh, the release said.
“letter addressed to politicians of various party on the letterhead of ULFA with signatures of Drishti Rajkhowa Deputy Commander in chief ULFA-I was recovered from him. Two diaries having personal details i.e (address, phone number) of prominent political figures, 5 Debit/ Credit cards of various banks, and 3 Mobile phone were seized from him”, as mentioned in the release.
Earlier case FIR no 8/2019 U/S 384, 385, 506, 511 IPC R/W section 10 UAP Act 1967 was registered in Crime Branch police station of SIT.
After putting sustained effort and raids in Delhi, Dibrugarh, and Guwahati over a period of one month Ranjan was finally tracked and arrested. He was produced in Court and remanded for 7 days in Police Custody. The PRO said.
During interrogation it was revealed that he was earlier arrested by Delhi Police for threatening & extortion charges and sent to Tihar jail. His link to ULFA dates back to 1985. He has contributed to the organization by Recruiting men and held important post. The release added.
