Arunachal: Chakat Aboh and Azet Homtok are in fray for Khonsa bypoll

The by-election to 56-Khonsa West (ST) Constituency Assembly seat is scheduled to be conducted on October 21 next after it was necessitated following the demise of slain MLA Tirong Aboh, who contested the state assembly polls with NPP ticket, got re-elected from said seat with more than a thousand votes.
Earlier, Chakat Aboh, Yumsem Matey, Wangchu Lowang and Azet Homtok had all validly filed nomination papers for the seat, while Yumsem Matey and Wangchu Lowang have withdrawn their nomination papers.
As per list of contesting candidates issued by the Returning Officer of 56-Khonsa West (ST) Constituency Assembly, Chakat Aboh, wife of Tirong Aboh and Azet Homtok will contest for the seat as Independent candidate for the ensuing by-poll.
Earlier this month, in an all-party meeting chaired by Arunachal Pradeh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, representatives of BJP, Congress, NPP, Janata Dal (United) and People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) decided to support Chakat Aboh as a consensus candidate,
In the meeting, the 5 major political parties of the state also decided not to field Chakat from a particular party ticket but to support as consensus candidate, with a Team Arunachal spirit to extend their solidarity with family members of slain MLA Tirong Aboh and other 10 others, who were killed May 21 massacre.
