ALSU sets 30-day deadline for govt to meet demands

The Arunachal Law Students’ Union (ALSU) today set a 30-day deadline for the state government to fulfill its demands or face a democratic movement.
It today reiterated its demands for immediate functioning of Government Law College at Jote, implementation of Lokayukta, establishment of independent high court and establishment of juvenile justice board, besides remand home and establishment of a CJM and other subordinate courts in each district.
In a press conference held here in the press club, the union said that the government was to yet take any decision on their demands.
The union further sought removal of parliamentary secretaries in compliance with Article 164(1A) of the Constitution of India and repeal of Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and demanded effective implementation of the Arunachal Pradesh Forest Act and Land Laws.
Expressing displeasure over the state government’s alleged failure to respond to its charter of demands which was submitted to the Chief Minister, Governor and Chief Secretary on several occasions, the ALSU has threatened to opt for democratic movements if the state government fails to fulfill their demandswithin 30 days.
It also urged the government to get rid of unwanted Chairmen in various departments of the state as such posts are unprofitable and may someday lead the state to a huge deficit.
On parliamentary secretary issue the union demanded that after the direction from the court they should have resigned as otherwise it may tantamount to contempt of court.
Union leaders Vice President (Protocol)Yorum Tamin, Vice President (Admn) Gela Blange, Convenor K.L. Nayum and IPR Secretary Nyowang Lowang addressed the press conference.
