Arunachal: Indian Army Concludes Vande Mataram 150-Year Event in Tawang

The Indian Army concluded the 150-year commemoration of Vande Mataram at Tawang War Memorial, blending military tradition with local cultural heritage.

IThe Indian Army successfully culminated the 150-year commemorative celebrations of Vande Mataram at the historic Tawang War Memorial on January 26, 2026. Organised by the Tawang Brigade, the event marked a century and a half since the composition of the iconic national song and was held from January 15 to January 26.

The commemorative programme served as a tribute to India’s freedom struggle, cultural heritage and enduring spirit of patriotism. Throughout the celebration period, the Tawang War Memorial became a focal point of national pride, resonating with patriotic fervour and collective remembrance.

A key feature of the celebrations was the performance by the Military Marching Band, which rendered martial tunes reflecting the discipline, valour and traditions of the Indian Armed Forces. One of the major highlights was the unique fusion performances by the Military Band in collaboration with the Monpa Institute of Performing Arts (MIPA), where military music blended with indigenous cultural rhythms.

The cultural presentations by MIPA showcased the vibrant traditions of the Monpa community, reinforcing the idea of unity in diversity and symbolising the harmony between national identity and local culture. Officials noted that the fusion performances also reflected strong military–civil cooperation, particularly significant in remote and strategically important border regions.

The event witnessed wide participation from military personnel, civil dignitaries, representatives of the local administration, students, youth, residents and tourists. The presence of civil dignitaries alongside the armed forces underscored the close bond between the Indian Army and the people of the region.

Officials said the celebrations highlighted the Army’s role not only as the guardian of the nation’s borders but also as a contributor to nation-building, social integration and cultural preservation.

The successful culmination of the commemorative event left a lasting impression on attendees, reaffirming Vande Mataram as a timeless symbol of unity, inspiration and national pride.
