New Delhi
Delhi North East Organisations, Indian Gorkhas & Delhi Police jawans, at the initiative of NGO Helping Hands, conducted a blood donation camp at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here on Sunday in memory of freedom fighters of North East states and Indian Gorkhas.
In all 305 came volunteered to donate but only 204 including Helping Hands president Robin Hibu passed medical tests to donate. The donated blood units were given to North East blood bank of AIIMS for needy poor patients besides kept at Emergency Trauma Centre to meet urgent requirement in case of accidents or any other eventuality.
The AIIMS Blood Bank authority on receiving SMS or WhatsApp message from Hibu gives blood to need patients, said Hibu, Delhi Police special commissioner, adding that police help lines are 1091 (for women), 1096 (anti-obscene) and 1093 (NE) or he could be contacted round-the-clock over M: 9810083486. It may be recalled that AIIM authority had felicitated Helping Hand in June last year for mobilizing blood in large quantities to save lives.
This blood donation camp was an endeavour to pay respect to those martyrs and make people aware of sacrifices of NE freedom fighters, particularly younger generations of NE, Helping Hands president told this daily over telephone.
We made our presence felt in Delhi by our positive initiative and photos of freedom fighters were adorning at the wall of AIIMS and Trauma Centre, inform Hibu.
