Dr Kasturi sets new revolution in surgical eye-care

A new revolution has been initiated in the field of surgical eye-care at Sri Sankardeva Nethralaya, as a patient who lost his vision following his injury to his optic nerve following an accident, has been successfully operated by Dr. Kasturi Bhattacharjee and her team using Navigation Guided Technology of external optic canal decompression.
This would be the first time in India where this technology has been used for the optic nerve injury patients by an eye surgeon. The availability of this state of the art technology at Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya will open a new door of high end eye care service for many patients of North East Indian region, mentioned in a press release issued by Sri Sankardeva Nethralaya.
The treatment of this condition was unimaginable before, considering the nature of his injuries. Eventually the patient has been operated at Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya with the help of the modern surgical technology and the he is on the way of visual recovery, added in the press release.
It is believed that this good visual outcome has been made possible thanks to the excellent surgical hands of Dr. Kasturi Bhattacharjee and augmentation of new surgical technology which had not been made possible earlier.
In this regard, the initiatives of Dr. Kasturi Bhattacharjee and Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya have brought new hopes to these patients who have nearly given up their wish to see this beautiful world again.
Road traffic accidents being one of the major causes of this type of optic nerve injury affecting many young individuals, we would like to appeal to everyone to drive safely and wear helmet to prevent it. Those who are unfortunate to meet with an accident should receive the treatment at the earliest for a chance of better visual recovery
This apart, another recent achievement for Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya and for entire North- East region is that the prestigious international award i.e. the DCERTF award of American Research and Vision Organization (ARVO) for this year has been conferred to Dr. Kasturi Bhattacharjee of Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya.
This is for the first time that an Ophthalmologist from North- East India has been conferred this prestigious award by ARVO. Furthermore, it is worth mentioning that Dr. Kasturi Bhattacharjee has five National Gold Medals to her credit, apart from she being the first lady FRCS (Ophthalmologist) from North- East region.
