Tourism Minister Nakap Nalo on Thursday morning conducted surprise inspection of helipad here and ISBT at nearby Lekhi village, both gateways of visitors .
This surprise inspection was presumably after report on July 3 edition of local dailies drew his attention. However, he was visibly shocked to see the tall multi-storied private buildings coming up though detrimental to chopper operation and took snaps as proof.
He was surprised to learn that such constructions continued unabated and two towers hazard for aviation have been built in the periphery in violation of 03.01.12 prohibitory order for which ADM-cum-chief estate officer Talo Potom had issued prohibitory order under u/s 133 CrPC again on June 28.
Nalo directed his office to convene meeting of civil aviation secretary, director and Potom in his office immediately for a threadbare discussion to initiate bold steps.
The horrible condition of mud filled 8.6 hectare area of inter-state bus terminus left the minister flabbergasted when APST service director Abo Tayeng explained that the drainage system was unable to withstand continuous flow of mud triggered by torrential rains. The unchecked earth cutting by nearby land and building owners has resulted in such situation, he said.
Pointing out that ISBT is the hub for all long distant buses, the state Govt had also decided to ply small buses in Capital Complex not only as a link service to the ISBT but also to ease traffic congestion.
Responding to minister’s query on maintenance of ISBT, Tayeng said that though built by urban development department with present Education Minister Taba Tedir as its chief engineer-cum-director but it is transport department responsibility now after taking it over from the UD, he added.
