Arunachal: Flash Floods Ravage Infrastructure in Upper Subansiri
Heavy rainfall on May 21 triggered flash floods in Upper Subansiri district, washing away key bridges, damaging homes and agricultural land, and disrupting connectivity to several villages.

DAPORIJO- Heavy rainfall that struck parts of Upper Subansiri district in the early hours of May 21 triggered severe flash floods in Nilling and Giba circles, causing extensive damage to infrastructure, homes, agricultural land and livestock, according to preliminary reports from district authorities.
Officials conducting on-site inspections reported that a reinforced cement concrete (RCC) bridge at Nyo Koro near Ningping village under Nilling Circle was completely washed away by floodwaters. The bridge was considered a critical connectivity link under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), connecting Chetam Circle with several villages in Nilling Circle.

In Ningping village, at least seven kutcha houses and one pucca house sustained damage during the flash flood. Agricultural fields and livestock were also reportedly affected, raising concerns over the livelihoods of local residents dependent on farming and animal husbandry.
Another major bridge connecting Longte village with Giba headquarters was also washed away, disrupting access to villages located beyond Wrge village. The collapse of the bridge has effectively cut off road connectivity to several remote settlements in the area.
Authorities further reported extensive damage to horticulture plantations, cultivated fields and livestock across the affected regions. The full scale of losses is still being assessed by district officials.
The district administration stated that it is closely monitoring the situation and that restoration of connectivity and relief measures are being initiated on a priority basis. Officials from the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Upper Subansiri, have also issued a public advisory urging residents not to venture into rivers for fishing or collection of firewood, driftwood or fish brought in by floodwaters, warning that such activities could pose serious risks to life and property.
The incident comes amid continuing heavy rainfall across several northeastern states, where concerns over landslides, flash floods and infrastructure vulnerability remain high during the monsoon season.
