Heavy Rain Alert for Arunachal, Assam, Meghalaya and Sikkim on September 23
The IMD has forecast heavy rain across key northeastern states on September 23, while a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal is expected to cross the Odisha–Andhra coast.
Heavy Rain Alert- The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall across several northeastern states on Wednesday, with Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and Sikkim among the areas facing heightened rainfall activity.
For Arunachal Pradesh, the IMD has issued a heavy-rain warning for September 23, along with the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning. Thunderstorm and lightning activity is also forecast over subsequent days.
Assam and Meghalaya are also under a heavy-rain warning for September 23. The IMD has additionally indicated the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning. The warning outlook shows thunderstorm and lightning activity continuing over the following days.
In Sikkim, heavy rainfall is forecast on September 23 and 24, while the IMD has indicated the possibility of very heavy rainfall on September 25. Thunderstorms and lightning are also included in the warning outlook.

The wider weather pattern is being influenced by a deep depression over the westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal. According to the IMD, the system is moving west-northwestwards and is expected to cross the north Andhra Pradesh–south Odisha coast between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur, close to Kalingapatnam, by the night of September 23.
The system is associated with the most intense rainfall activity over parts of central and southern India. The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated extremely heavy rainfall, over Chhattisgarh, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Telangana on September 23.
Thunder squalls with wind speeds of 50–60 kmph are also forecast at isolated places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Telangana.
Elsewhere, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are possible over several areas.

The weather contrast is particularly noticeable over northwest India. As the southwest monsoon continues its gradual withdrawal, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi are forecast to remain dry on September 23, while isolated rainfall is possible over West Uttar Pradesh.
The IMD has said conditions are favourable for further withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from remaining parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, as well as some parts of Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Uttar Pradesh during the next two days.
Meanwhile, the northeastern region remains under a more active rainfall pattern, with Assam and Meghalaya expected to experience widespread rainfall activity, while Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim remain under rainfall warnings.

The IMD has also identified a low to moderate flash-flood risk in parts of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh through the morning of September 23, particularly across some watersheds and adjoining areas.
With the monsoon beginning to retreat from parts of northwest India while rainfall remains active across the Northeast and central and southern parts of the country, weather conditions are expected to remain sharply varied across India on Wednesday.
