ITANAGAR- The Women and Child Development (WCD) Minister Alo Libang urged the prospective adoptive parents to take recourse to legal adoption means to adopt children during the ongoing celebration of National Adoption Awareness Month-2023 organized at the state Banquet Hall here today.
Appreciating the WCD department for holding the awareness campaigns throughout the districts, the Minister also directed the WCD department to leave no stone unturned in spreading awareness on legal adoption in every nook and corner of the state.

On the occasion, two-short videos on ‘Adoption and its Punitive Provisions’ with the objective of promoting adoption and making people aware of legal adoption was released by the Minister.
The awareness campaign had been organized by the state WCD department in collaboration with Central Adoption Research Authority (CARA), New Delhi with the theme ‘Adoptive Parents and Prospective Adoptive Parents Meet’ to create awareness on legal adoption with special emphasis on adoption of older children, in accordance with the sub-theme of ‘Adoption of Older Children’.
While informing that the National Adoption Month was celebrated during the month of November every year and this year also the celebrations had started from 1st November which would culminate tomorrow, WCD Director T.P Loyi In her welcome address said awareness on legal adoption was very important and vital for prospective adoptive parents.
The department has developed two-short videos for awareness purpose which would also be disseminated to all the districts soon, and I appeal the participants to create awareness on legal adoption and to avoid illegal adoption which is punishable, said Loyi.
In her keynote address, Deputy Director (ICDS)-cum-nodal officer of Mission Vatsalya C. Tangjang briefed the activities undertaken by WCD department during the month long celebration at state and district levels.
Senior professional (CARA) Nidhi Kataria presented a PPT on Adoption Regulations-2022 with special focus on the changes in the guidelines. Nidhi informed this year the main focus was ‘Adoption of Older Children’ and urged to encourage and emphasis more on foster adoption of older children.

The CARA senior professional further stressed on providing counselling to prospective adoptive parents and to strictly follow the rules and regulations related to adoption.
In the interactive session involving the Specialized Adoption Agencies (SAAs) and Prospective Adoptive Parents (PAPs), different issues relating to adoptions were discussed in detail.
The programme was also attended by WCD secretary Mimum Tayeng, chairperson Oju Welfare Association Ratan Anya, chairperson Nani Maria Society Desai Linggi, president Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare Society Kani Nada Maling, prospective adoptive parents and adoptive parents.
