Arunachal: Rajiv Gandhi University observed World Soil Day 2023

ITANAGAR- Joining rest of the world, Department of Soil Science & Agricultural Chemistry, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Rajiv Gandhi University celebrated ‘World Soil Day’ on 5th December, 2023. This year the theme for the event was ‘Soil and Water a source of life’.
The program was organized at Chiputa Village, Papum Pare district, Arunachal Pradesh which was attended by over 100 participants including the Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Head of various Departments, faculty members, the Gaon Bura of Chiputa village, host of farmers and the 4th Year B.Sc. (Ag. Hons.) students.

To begin with, the relevance of soil and water in today’s scenario was discussed at length by Dr. Samikhya Bhuyan, Head (i/c), Department of Soil Science & Agricultural Chemistry while the different sustainable nutrient management technologies were demonstrated by Dr. Sagolshem Kalidas Singh, Assistant Professor in front of farmers and the attendees.
Prof. Saket Kushwaha, Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University, in his message conveyed the significance of soil and water which are the life and blood of agriculture and the bedrock of our sustenance.

He further added that integration of sustainable agricultural methods, promoting soil conservation, and engaging in research that advances understanding of soil ecosystems will contribute to the global effort to preserve and protect this invaluable resource.
Prof. Sumpam Tangjang, Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, stressed on the importance of soil. He quoted ‘soil as a living body’ and appeal the attendees to conserve soil for overall benefit of humankind.
He also distributed Bio-enhancers among the progressive farmers of the village. The farmers expressed their happiness and thanked the organizers.
During the program, all the faulty members and students participated actively and shared their inputs regarding the significance of the World Soil Day.
