Union Power Minister Assures Assistance To Flood hit Arunachal

Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal has assured to provide all out support to the flood and lanslide hit Himalayan state of Arunachal Pradesh. He conveyed this to Chief Minister Pema Khandu in a telephonic conversation late today evening.

Expressing his deep sorrow over the unfortunate incident of several people losing their lives in the backdrop of severe landslide and flood, Goyal conveyed his sincere condolences through the CM to the bereaved family members.

Taking stock of the current situation in the state, the Power Minister informed CM that he had already directed the CMDs of NHPC and NEEPCO to provide all possible assistance to the state in restoration works. Specific directives were issued to the PSUs to liase with the state government and do whatever possible from their end.

As immediate help to the state government, the Union Minister earmarked Rs. 10 Crores as initial assistance. He has also directed the PGCIL to immediately look after the reported damages of the transmission lines in the state and make necessary arrangements for its restoration at the earliest.

 Meanwhile, on the directives of PMO, the state government had today sent a report on the prevailing situation of the state aftermath of flood and landslide occurrence in the entire state. Based on the report, the Minister of State, PMO and DONER Jitendra Singh took an emergency meeting with the Ministry of Home Affairs and Disaster Management officials which was also attended by our State Government representatives. In the meeting the minister directed the concerned ministries to extend all possible assistance to Arunachal Pradesh. He gave specific directives to immediately release the SDR Funds to the state to mitigate the situation.

On the direction of Prime Minister, MoS Home Kiren Rijiju today conducted survey of the flood and landslide areas of in and around twin state capital city. The MoS and Chief Minister Khandu will be making aerial survey of the affected areas on Friday along with the central team to assess the quantum of damages caused by the natural catastrophe.
