Tawang: Independence Day Cup Football Tournament begins
Tawang district Football Association(TDFA) Chairman Namgey Tsering informed that this tournament has been sponsored by Chief Minister Pema Khandu and MLAs Jambey Tashi and Tsering Tashi.

Commander Tawang Brigade, Brig. Zubin Bhatnagar today inaugurated the Independence Day Cup football tournament at Gyalwa Tsangyang Gyatso high altitude stadium in Tawang. Rajesh Thakur, commandant 38th Bn SSB graced the occasion as guest of honour and Lobsang Tsetan PD DRDA Tawang as special guest.
In his welcome address the recently formed Tawang district Football Association(TDFA) Chairman Namgey Tsering informed that this tournament has been sponsored by Chief Minister Pema Khandu and MLAs Jambey Tashi and Tsering Tashi.
He further said that TDFA is affiliated to Arunachal Pradesh Football Association and from now onwards TDFA will provide platform to the players to play in state level football tournaments. We shall also help to good player to pursue his further progress. He also paid his tribute to the martyrs of Kargil war and said we shall never forget the sacrifice made by our brave soldiers in protecting our country.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest Commander 190 Mountain Brigade Brigadier Zubin Bhatnagar Complimented the teams and TDFA for organizing this tournament like every year.
Games and sports are very important for physical as well as character building, our young and dynamic Chief minister himself is a very good sports men, there are lots of talented footballers in Arunachal Pradesh and I hope we will see international level footballers from this state very soon.
He further said that today is very important day for all of us to remember, our brave soldiers who made supreme sacrifice during Kargil war. We soldiers are always blessed to receive so much of love and respect from people of Arunachal, this encourages us to serve more dedicatedly and sincerely.
A total of 19 teams are participating in this tournament, and the first match was played between Pingya XI versus Dosti Club Jang.
