Tarh Peeju will be remembered forever- Pul

Tarh Peeju will be forever immortalised as Chief Minister Kalikho Pul announced to name a bridge after her, which would be built over Pachin River near Jullang village.

A student of Alphabet Public School in Nirjuli, 9-year-old Tarh Peeju died on Thursday after she was washed away by flood waters having saved two friends from drowning in the Pachin river.

The Chief Minister praised her as “an inspiration” and “a guardian angel” for saving the life of her two friends, 9-year-old Tarh Charu and 10-year-old Phassang Mary

The CM had gone to visit to her house to offer his floral tribute on Saturday. He condoled her death and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and wished that she continue to be as generous in other world too.

Recounting the fateful day, Peeju’s father told the CM that “Peeju with her friends were on their way to mother’s farming field situated across the river.

She didn’t knew her mother had returned from the field, and in their attempt to cross the river met with tragedy.”

“She cried for help moments before she drowned tired and exhausted saving her two friends. Her body was found 30 metres away from the accident site,” recalled the father with teary eyes.

Praying for strength to the family members to bear the loss, the Chief Minister said that “I have come here not as CM but as another human being to share your sorrow.”

Assuring every possible measures to help, the CM said, “We cannot bring her back, but I assure you that she will live in memory of all us forever” and announced that “her name will be recommended for national bravery award in recognition of her brave act.”

The Chief Minister also assured the grieving family members of Rs 4 lakhs from the disaster relief fund and another Rs 4 lakhs from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. He further donated a token amount from his personal source.

The CM who is known for going above and beyond the call of duty to help people in distress, assured to sponsor a child’s education from the family till the completion and also offered a government job to one of the family member. The names to receive the benefits would be decided by Peeju’s mother.

An excellent dancer, singer and sportsperson, Peeju had achieved numerous feats including eight gold and three silver medals for her achievements.

Lauding her achievements, the Chief Minister said: “God had given her extraordinary talent and her death would never go in vain. It’s god’s work and I pray that she continues with her good work in other world.

The CM also urged for precautions to be maintained by the school authority. He asked them not to leave children alone and advised them to monitor their movement during school hours.
