Additional Director General of Police (Communication), Assam, R Chandanathan has alleged that a section of senior police officers trying to tarnish his public image. Chandranathan has urged the state government to safeguard him.
It is mentioned In a press release issued by the R Chandranathan in a press conference that ” a section of senior police officers against whom I have done enquiries and investigations under proper government order on various allegation of corruption and criminal misconduct have joined together in pursuance of conspiracy to tarnish my public image”.
The alleged attempt to tarnish the image was through “propaganda and slander in form of false allegations and also by foisting false and highly malicious criminal case against me”, the ADGP maintained.
Asserting he had the image of a clean police officer known for his dedication and professionalism as a police officer during the last 30 years of his service, Chandanathan said, “the recent developments have not only affected my professional work but also has the potential to impact my image as an honest police officer”.
“I would like to reveal that during my tenure as ADGP Vigilance and Anti-Corruption with government support I was able to not only strengthen government initiatives in Assam on anti-corruption but also for the first time in the state successfully carry out trap cases on corrupt government employees”, he claimed.
The 1986 batch police officer claimed he had always stood for transparency in the police recruitment process and was instrumental in exposing largescale corruption involving senior police officers during recruitment rallies in 2014.
The act of foisting criminal cases is a strategy to slow down the enquiries/investigations started during my tenure, he alleged.
“I have already apprised the state government of these developments and I am sure I will be protected from such highly dangerous and illegal activities.
Meanwhile ” I am confident that i will get the support from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal who are both protagonists of SMART policing and zero tolerance against corruption”, Chandranathan said.
Its must be mentioned here that after fighting relentlessly for 7 years, a poor news paper vendor, Sujit Paul was able to get a Criminal Case registered in Silchar P.S. for depriving him of his genuine right, against mighty ADGP of Assam Police, R. Chandranathan.
The poor Sujit Paul has to face all odds in this journey. It is to be mentioned that Sujit Paul was denied ‘OBC’ reservation by Chandranathan, who was the Chairman of the ‘Recruitment Board’. Sujit paul was denied the documents even under R.T.I. It was only last year that he could get appropriate documents and accordingly place them in the Gauhati High Court.
The original master register shows him OBC still how it was changed in the computerized documents is a mystery, which may be solved during investigation of cases. Even his F.I.R. was initially not accepted by Silchar Police however after lot of struggle he could get it registered on the order dated 5.10.16 passed by Chief Judicial Magistrate, Silchar .
Its unfortunate if a genuine candidate has to suffer for 7 years for no fault of him. Many other candidates have also made similar allegations. Similar other allegations have come against Sri Chandranathan and his close assistant Santosh Choudhury for doing large scale anomalies during the recruitment.
