In view of popularizing Anthropology as an academic and research discipline, and also to understand its significance and dimensions in Arunachal Pradesh, the Department of Anthropology under the School of Human & Environmental Sciences at Saint Claret College, Ziro observed the World Anthropology Day today, focusing on the theme “Anthropology Matters!” as adopted by the American Anthropological Association.

Various activities such as poster display, an anthropological exhibition of archaeological tools, laboratory items, tribal artefacts, and screening of ethnographic films were held. An essay writing contest is also being conducted to mark the occasion. The programme was coordinated by Assistant Professors Tame Ramya (Tarh) and Bhaboklang Sohkhlet with logistic support from the college administration.

World Anthropology Day is an initiative by the American Anthropological Association. Founded in 1902, the American Anthropological Association, with more than 10,000 members, is the world’s largest professional organization of anthropologists dedicated to advancing human understanding and tackling the most pressing global issues. It is a day wherein anthropologists share their passion in their discipline with those around them.
