Seven traders hailing from nearby Darangre are in Goalpara district of Assam were kidnapped at gunpoint by a group of alleged militants in the village of Kalwe Ading near Dokongsi under Kharkutta block in the district. The incident took place in North Garo Hills district of Meghalaya.

 “Two groups of traders were returning from Dokongsi weekly market, when their vehicle was stopped by a group of six to seven armed militants near Kalwe Ading under Kharkutta police outpost and were abducted”, said the Superintendent of Police (SP), NGH, Ramesh Singh.

The traders have been identified as Tustu Paul, Manoranjan Sarkar, Putul Mukherjee, Piyush Biswas, Pradip Das, Bijoy Sarkar and Ganesh Basu who all hailed from Darangre in Goalpara district of Assam.
Police informed that the vehicle was stopped and all the traders were lined up, of which seven were abducted and rest were allowed to go. The two traders, who had witnessed the abduction, reported the matter to Kharkutta police outpost today.

There were around 12 traders in the Mahindra Pick-Up. “Police and CoBRA commandos are have began operations to find the whereabouts of the traders,” added Singh.

About 2 months ago, about 13 people were kidnapped by unidentified militants near the village of Wageasi in NGH with most of them being released later allegedly having payed the ransom, though the identity of those kidnapped was a mystery as most of them were from Assam. Very few FIRs were lodged in the earlier case.
