Mein Inaugurates 1st Namsai District Football Cup Tournament

Arunachal Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein today inaugurated 1st Namsai District Football Cup tournament here amidst tens of hundreds of football lovers.

The tournament is being organized by All Namsai Districts Students Union (ANDSU) in collaboration with District Sport Officer Lohit & Namsai district. Altogether twenty four teams from within the Namsai & Changlang district are participating. The teams are placed in 4 different pools with 6 teams each. The semi finals of the tourney will be played on October 6 & 8 and Final match on October 11. The inaugural match was played between RSFC Mahadevpur and GHSS Namsai. The winning team will take away home trophy and a cash award of Rs one lakh. Also there are individual prizes.

On this occasion, appreciating the efforts of the student organization to hold the football tournament, DCM Mein exhorted the students and youths to shun drugs and sensitize people about the ill-effects of using drugs and asked them to pledge to say ‘No’ to drugs.

Mein said that the promotion of sports was important for the society and development of sports infrastructure has been flagged as an important component as it’s the priority of the present government, adding that various steps have been initiated in this regards. With the coming up of Sports Authority and Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy has helped to unearth latent talents through proper training, he added.

Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy has been set up in the State for providing better facilities to the youths so that talented players in different sporting fields are educated and nurtured to represent the State in National and International levels to bring glory for the State and Nation as whole, he further added.

While condemning the unprecedented September 10 incident where SP Namsai and his team of police officials were overpowered and physically assaulted at Silatoo Miri, DCM has asked the district administration to deal strictly and not to spare any offender.

He has also directed the district administration to clear the air on spread of rumour on murakatta (headhunters) and to hold immediate meeting on this. It is high time for the district administration, matter is thoroughly investigated and untoward, if any, is averted, he said.

Earlier, the Deputy Chief Minister met the players of the both the teams and wished them well. He also instigated the peace balloon ceremony.

Among others to witness the game included MLA Namsai Chow Zingnu Namchoom, ZPC, HoDs, PRI leaders and hundreds of football lovers.

Meanwhile, the prizes for the ‘Run for Badminton’ was also distributed to the winners by MLA  Namsai Chow Zingnu Namchoom on the occasion.
