Legal Awareness – on Bonded Labour, Domestic Violence

The two days Legal Awareness programme by the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) on bonded labour and child labour, sexual harassment at workplace, domestic violence and free legal aid, child and force marriage, compulsory registration of marriage, POCSO Act, livelihood etc began this morning at Government Higher Secondary school auditorium, Rupa.

domestic-violenceChairperson APSCW Mitali Tingkhatra in her keynote address speaking on women empowerment appealed the womenfolk to know their rights and duties for a balanced society, for which education is a must, she reiterated.

Deputy Commissioner Sonal Swaroop opined that with advancement of technology, crime against women and child have increased and to counter that, legal awareness programmes such as this is the need of the hour.

Resource persons from Labour department, Itanagar, District Legal Services Authority, Bomdila and Himalayan University, Itanagar dealt on Bonded Labour & Child Labour, Domestic violence and free legal aid, sexual harassment at work place and Child marriage and forced marriage which was followed by an interactive session moderated and wrapped up by Member Secretary APSCW Yame Higio.

The next day’s session would deal on compulsory marriage registration, POCSO Act, Livelihood, Health & Hygiene followed by an interactive session.

The awareness programme has been sponsored by National Commission for Women, New Delhi and conducted in collaboration with the Women Welfare Association, Rupa.
