Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Thursday launched the website of the department of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in presence of Secretary Skill Development Madhu Garg, Secretary Information Technology Sonam Chombay, Director General-cum-Joint Secretary Skill Development Konkar Dulom, Director Skill Development Subu Tabin and officials of the department and NIC.

Congratulating the department on the launch of portal www.skillarunachal.nic.in, Khandu said having a website has become a necessity for transparency, speedy and accessible delivery of services to the people.

“For a department like skill development it is all the more essential as it deals directly with the people, particularly the unemployed youths,” he observed.

Khandu appreciated the NIC team for coming up with a dynamic, interactive and user-friendly portal that will give instant access to opportunities to the unemployed and share information on the services available for skill development and employment generation.

Underscoring the importance of the department, the Chief Minister stressed on strengthening it and increase its scope of service.

“Unemployment is a big challenge for our government. As everybody cannot be accommodated in government jobs, it is essential to skill our youths for employment in private sectors as well as self-employment. Herein comes the major role of this department,” he said.

Suggesting for streamlining the skill development programme, Khandu emphasized on switching to high-end skills from the current trades that would give way to gainful employment of youths.

He said a brainstorming was need of the moment to review the whole programme of skill development and employment generation and assured that a meeting would be convened soon for the purpose.

Meanwhile, Garg informed that focus of the programme has been to wean away youths from searching for government jobs through campaigns, job melas, etc.

The department has so far sponsored 11,206 youths for training in various trades through 46 registered Vocational Training Providers (VTPs). While 2580 youths are employed in various sectors across the country, 655 are still undergoing training.
