Itanagar: Week long fire safety week concludes

The week long fire safety week concluded with several live demonstration and awareness programme across the state. Here at state capital the Itanagar fire station also observed the week with the theme ‘ fire prevention is better than fire fighting’, and organised several live demonstration in various parts where the movement of large numbers of people area seen.

During the Live demonstration the fire personnel has conducted various types of extinguishing media by using portable fire extinguishers, such as Water Type Extinguishers for ordinary fire, Mechanical Foam (AFFF) extinguishers for oil fire, Dry Chemical powder Extinguishers for metal fire, Carbon-dioxide extinguishers for electric and gas fire, including improvised methods of rescue drills, First Aid, LPG fire and also brief to the public Do’s and Don’ts in case of fire.

Itanagar fire station officer incharge Koj Taro while addressing the gathering at various location said that it would be better if we as a local residents need to know how to live happily without any fire accident and loss of life and property.  if we take few precautionary measure so that fire accidents can be stopped or reduced or prevented.

He highlighted several precautionary measures by which fire can be prevented and extinguished. Several fire fighters also take part in live demonstration in various parts of capital city.

It is to mentioned that there was around 35 fire incident reported in 2016, 2017 and 2018 while five till March 2019 respectively in Itanagar itself wherein property worth nineteen crore seventy two lakhs in 2016, Nine crore fifty six lakh in 2017, sixteen crore eighty seven lakhs in 2018 and around forty lakhs was either burned down or lost.

The fire fighters have been also been able to save property by their intervention worth fourteen crore twenty lakh in 2016, six crore forty nine lakhs in 2017, eight crore ninety seven lakh in 2018 while five lakhs till March 2019. Five person have lost their life in 2016, one in 2017, six in 2018 either by fire, landslide and other disaster which can be prevented if the local residents opt several precautionary measures.
