Itanagar: NABARD Organised State Level Workshop for DEDS & NLM

NABARD’s unit of  Arunachal Pradesh organized State Level Workshop on Dairy Entrepreneurship Development Scheme (DEDS) and National Livestock Mission (NLM) on Wednesday.

The workshop  was attended by higher level officers from State Level Bankers Committee, Directorate of Agriculture, GoAP, State Cooperative Apex Bank, Arunachal Pradesh Rural Bank, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Papum Pare, major Banks and other line departments.

Dr. Gopa Kumaran Nair G, GM/OIC, NABARD elaborated the broad objective of the meeting and informed that Government of India has launched DEDS scheme to augment income of farmers and to modernise dairy sector.

Under the scheme, credit linked subsidy upto 33.33% is provided to entrepreneurs for establishment of dairy units. The ground level situation such as availability of land and water, higher prices for produce, infrastructure available in veterinary sector etc. are conducive for establishment of dairy units in Arunachal Pradesh. He urged the bankers to provide loan to potential entrepreneurs for establishment of dairy units and to follow due procedure to claim subsidy, online.

A detailed presentation, containing salient features of DEDS scheme, was made by Baidya Nath Singh, Manager. As per guidelines, banks have to upload proposal for subsidy within 30 days after sanctioning and claim eligible subsidy within 30 days after date of first upload   through a dedicated online portal of NABARD. Detailed procedure for lodging subsidy claim on online portal was also presented to the house.

Reji Varghese, Assistant General Manager, NABARD enlightened the house about salient features of National Livestock Mission. He informed that pig rearing is a common activity amongst rural populace of Arunachal Pradesh and huge demand for pork meat throw opportunity for commercial rearing of piggery in a cluster mode in the State of Arunachal Pradesh. Under NLM scheme, subsidy upto 50% for NER States is admissible.

It was informed to the house that to assess the dairy potential in the State of Arunachal Pradesh, a collaborative study was conducted in three district viz., Papum Pare, Lohit & East Siang by NABARD & Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Papum Pare.

Gist of study observations were shared by Dr. Bangkeng Perme, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Papum Pare.  S Ranjith Singh, Lead District Manager, Papum Pare district shared his views and urged bankers to help entrepreneurs in establishment of dairy and piggery units in the State.

Nangram Kiochak, a successful dairy entrepreneur shared his views about the scheme and his experience regarding dairy farming, which were widely appreciated by the house.

S Vaseeharan, Dy. General Manager, NABARD summed up the discussions and extended vote of thanks to all participants.
