Itanagar: 1st state Sub-junior ranking Badminton tournament begins

The 1st Sub-Junior State Ranking Badminton Tournament 2019 kicked off here today at MLA Cottage Badminton Stadium amid huge gathering and sports lover in spite of inclined weather. More than 200 young badminton players from across the state are participating in this tournament.
The tourney is being organised by Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA) wherein upcoming state young shuttlers and budding players will compete for the ranking.
The first ever sub-junior state ranking tournament will be in the annual badminton calendar event, thrice in a year; form that the top ranked players will get chance to partake in Dorjee khandu Memorial Badminton tournament and also to other regional and national level tournament in the country.
The three day event will have competitions in doubles and singles for boys and girls in the under-19, 11 and 13 age categories.
Secretary General of Arunachal Olympic Association, Abhraham K. Techi who attended the inaugural ceremony as Chief Guest officially declared the tourney open.
He advised the young badminton enthusiasts to keep up the interest in sports along with their studies and advocated on the importance keeping their studies in check as well.

“You are the selected children from the state with special talent; use the talent to bring National and International laurels for the state and the country as a whole,” said Abraham.
Further, stressing on the importance of dedication and perseverance to succeed in life, he recommended that everything is possible if someone has a will and dedication.
Informing that many youths from the state have done well in National level competition, he viewed that grooming at such tender age will help them grow in maturity and stature.
“If better infrastructure is provided in the state, we would be leading in the country as well,” said Abraham adding that many have brought many medals for the state despite not having well equipped sports academy.
ASBA, Secretary Bamang Tago informed that organising tourney for under-9 age group is the first of its kind in the country. “We are the first to organised competition for them so that the young shuttlers a groomed from the very young age,” added Tago.
Divulging that the tournament is introducing this ambitious tournament after organising free summer coaching camps for the last two years across the state under the theme “Catch them young”, Tago said that the association is aiming to create awareness among parents and to instill sense of competitiveness to young badminton enthusiasts.
